Bongjun Mun

Pianist Moon Bong-jun, who received high praise in Europe for his powerful and passionate performances, graduated from Seoul Arts High School and Yonsei University College of Music before moving to Germany to complete the Professional Performance program at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. His performances, as proven by the numerous national and international competitions he has won and his extensive concert experience, captivate both audiences and critics with their intense energy.
From an early age, he won several competitions in Korea during his school years. He further demonstrated his exceptional musical talent on the European stage by winning 1st prize at the Magnificat Lupiae International Music Competition in Italy and 2nd prize at the Euterpe International Music Competition in Italy.
During his studies in Germany, pianist Moon Bong-jun solidified his reputation as a performer in Europe through numerous solo and chamber music performances. He collaborated with the Essen Kammer Orchestra in Duisburg, performed at the Duisburg Kleiner Saal for the 'Ketszaz – 200' concert, and took part in a joint recital titled ‘Fantasie & Tradition’
He also performed at the 'Haydn Marathon' commemorating the 200th anniversary of Haydn’s death, participated in a joint recital at St. Petersburg Mail Sal, accompanied and played in ensembles at Dortmund Halle, performed chamber music at Köln Antonieterkirche, and held solo recitals by invitation at Essen Bürgermeisterhaus (2010, 2011) and Essen Augustinum.
The deep resonance marked by the muscle and breath evident in each strike of the keys shines even more brightly in Beethoven's works. This was fully demonstrated through his recordings and album release of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas (No. 11, 23, 31) with the German ICEM.
He also earned a Doctorate in Piano Performance from Sejong University and is dedicated to research in piano education.
In 2022, he published a research paper analyzing the film music of the movie White Night, and in 2024, he will present a paper on strengthening piano education using the metaverse. His academic activities continue to be active.
Since November 2023, he has been appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Arts at Shandong University, where he guides students. He is also actively engaged in performances, including a piano concerto featuring Huanghe and Erhuang in Jinan, Shandong, as well as solo and chamber music performances.
