Shio Okui

Since she was 10, Shio has given numerous performances with conductor and violinist Vladimir Spivakov in countries around the world.
Born in 2004, she started playing piano when she was 5½, and at 7 began studying with the late Elena Ashkenazy. Shio made her orchestral debut at age 8, and at 12 she performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
In October 2019, at age 15, she was appointed soloist for the European tour of the Moscow Virtuosi chamber orchestra, and made her debut in prestigious European concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Musikverein, Smetana Hall in Prague, and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. Since the age of 9 she has been invited to international music festivals and has performed in venues including the Mariinsky Theatre, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, and the National Music Auditorium in Madrid.
Shio has appeared frequently as a soloist with orchestras in various countries, including the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia conducted by Vladimir Spivakov, the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev, and the National Philharmonic of Ukraine conducted by Mykola Diadura.
In Japan, she has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Keitaro Harada, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra led by Junichi Hirokami, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra led by Ken Takaseki, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Naoto Otomo, and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra led by Masaru Kumakura.

After studying at the Central Music School of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, in 2018 Shio began her studies with Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin Special School (College) of Music in Moscow. In December 2019, she was awarded that year’s Scriabin Scholarship from the Alexander Scriabin Memorial Museum.
Shio Okui is the recipient of many awards. In 2016 she was the youngest prize winner in the Moscow “Grand Piano Competition.” In 2015 she was the youngest First Prize winner in the 1st Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition (Junior Group), and in 2013 she was awarded Second Prize in the Piano Category as well as the Audience Award for all categories in the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Company’s 14th International Television Contest for Young Musicians “Nutcracker.” In April 2021, Shio received the award for “Classical Performer of the Year from a Partner Country” at the 3rd International Professional BraVo Music Award ceremony, held in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. In November 2022, Shio was a prize winner of the International Paderewski Piano Competition, and in October 2024 she was awarded the Prix Mireille Klemm from the Frederic Chopin Society Geneva.
In 2023, Shio Okui received a special award from the piano department of the Gnessin Special School (College) of Music, graduating at the top of her class. She currently studies with Nelson Goerner at the Haute école de musique de Genève. Shio is a recipient of scholarships from the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, the ROHM Music Foundation (2023, 2024), and the International Piano Foundation Theo and Petra Lieven of Hamburg.

In December 2025, her debut CD, "SHIO OKUI IN CONCERT Recorded at Takasaki City Theatre 2025" was launched in Japan.
