Honggi Kim

South Korean pianist Honggi Kim is internationally acclaimed for his distinctive musical voice, in which intellectual depth and emotional sensitivity converge to produce deeply personal interpretations. His dual training in piano and composition has fostered a unique artistic perspective and a profound understanding of music.
Honggi Kim has received numerous international distinctions, including First Prize at the Isangyun International Music Competition (2013); First Prize and two Special Prizes—for Best Performance in Chamber Music and Best Performance in Spanish Music—at the 60th International Piano Competition of Jaén (Spain, 2018); and First Prize at the 5th Hong Kong International Piano Competition (2019). 
His artistry has also been recognized through awards such as Third Prize at the China International Piano Competition (2013), Third Prize at the 69th Geneva International Music Competition (2014), a Special Prize at the Schubert International Music Competition (Germany, 2016), and a Special Prize for the Best Performance of Schumann at the Concours Géza Anda (Switzerland, 2018).
He has appeared in numerous concerts as a soloist in recitals, chamber music, and with orchestras throughout Europe—including Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland—as well as in Asia, including China, Japan, Singapore, Türkiye, and Hong Kong, and in South America, including Brazil.
Building upon these extensive international engagements, he has been featured at distinguished festivals and venues such as the 54th Cervo Music Festival and the 26th Amfiteatrof Music Festival in Italy; the Joy of Music Festival in Austria; the Pianistenfestival in Böblingen, the Earthquake-Konzertreihe in Friedrichshafen, and the Pianoforte-Fest Maissen in Germany; and Bechstein Hall in London. In his native South Korea, he has performed at the Kumho Art Hall Beautiful Thursday Series, the Seoul Arts Center Summer Music Festival, and the PyeongChang Music Festival.
He regularly presents solo recitals with thoughtfully curated thematic programs. In 2023, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s birth, he performed the complete cycle of 24 Preludes for Piano in a single concert. In 2024, marking the anniversary of Sergei Lyapunov’s death, he presented a program centered on Twelve Transcendental Études, Op. 11, dedicated to Franz Liszt. In 2025, his recital program features the complete solo piano works of Maurice Ravel in celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth.

Mr. Kim began his musical education at Yewon School and studied composition for three years at the Preparatory Program of the Korea National University of Arts (now the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts). He graduated from Seoul Arts High School and the Korea National University of Arts before continuing his studies in Germany, where he earned degrees from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the Musikhochschule Münster.
