Sang-il Han

Pianist Sang-il Han is regarded as one of the leading musicians in South Korea.
During his studies at the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts), he swept the nation’s most prestigious competitions, winning the Grand Prize and First Prize at both the Dong-A Music Competition and the KBS Seoul New Artist Music Competition, establishing himself early as a prominent figure in the Korean music scene.
A graduate of Seoul Arts High School where he entered and finished at the top of his class, Han earned his Bachelor of Music degree at K-Arts under the tutelage of Professor Dae-jin Kim. His artistic development continued at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg in Germany, where he was exceptionally admitted directly into the Meisterklasse degree without a Master’s degree—an honor reserved for only the most promising performers. Upon returning to Korea, he completed his Artist Diploma at K-Arts in 2012.
Han’s international presence expanded significantly after winning the Epinal International Piano Competition in France and receiving Third Prize at the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition in the United States.
These achievements earned him a reputation for representing “the rise of a purely home-grown Korean pianist,” marking an important milestone in demonstrating the excellence of Korean classical training on the global stage.
In 2011, he was selected as one of the 12 finalists at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy, where the legendary pianist Kun-Woo Paik praised him as “a pianist with a unique and individual sound.”
He has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Lorraine in France, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra.
In 2015, he performed chamber music with members of the Vienna Philharmonic in Seoul, and was invited as a soloist for the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival in both 2016 and 2020, earning high acclaim from both audiences and critics.

His discography began with the Sony Classical solo release Rachmaninoff & Prokofiev in 2016. Shortly after, he became the first Korean artist to present two consecutive recital evenings at the Seoul Arts Center IBK Chamber Hall.

In 2019, he received notable attention for arranging, editing, and premiering his own one-hour solo version of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. Han has since expanded his reach into composition, releasing his first New Age album Traveling in 2023, followed by Meditation in 2025. In 2023, he also released a Beethoven sonata recording featuring "Pathétique," "Moonlight," and "Appassionata" under Warner Classics, celebrated with a successful album release recital at Lotte Concert Hall.

Currently, alongside his concert and teaching career, Han serves as Chairman of PAPA (Pianists of Asia Pacific Association) and CEO/Artistic Director of PANG Production, contributing to the development of a new classical music ecosystem and an international artistic network throughout Asia. Having made his official conducting debut in January 2026 with the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, he is now embarking on a new artistic chapter as both a pianist and conductor.
